General Petraeus congratulates Bronze Star recipient

General David H. Petraeus, Commander, Multi-National Force-Iraq recently congratulated Army SSG Donald J. Harris II, 32nd Transportation Company, 541st CSSB following an Awards Ceremony in Bagdad. SSG Harris was awarded the Combat Action Badge and The Bronze Star. This highly decorated soldier is nearing the end of his second tour in Iraq, and will be returning with the rest of his unit to Fort Carson, Co. following a 15 month deployment supporting OIF. I am extremely proud of all our Soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, but SSG Harris stands out in my mind. Because he is my son. God Bless them all.

The Bird's The Word

I can't pass this up. Really neat video, and the song brings back some long ago memories when I was desert flying in a UH-1H (Huey).

Welcome Home Son

My Son Donnie (SSG Harris) arrived home to hugs and kisses from his wife and children last night to celebrate Christmas and take a timeout from his duties in Baghdad and the surrounding hostile areas of Ramadi, Baji, and who knows where. He is about a third of the way through his second tour. Although I can't be with him personally, he is home in Colorado Springs and I in my home near Tampa, the relief knowing he is safe from the War makes for a great nights sleep. Unless you have a family member or close friend in harm's way, you can only imagine the weight that jumps off your shoulder when your phone rings and you hear "Dad, I'm home". Merry Christmas everyone. There is a Santa!
