IA, MND-B Soldiers seize multiple weapons caches, detain three suspects

BAGHDAD – Soldiers from 1st Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, along with elements of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, responded to a tip from a detainee and discovered a weapons cache during a combined raid in Baghdad’s Mansour district at approximately 2:40 p.m. Wednesday.The cache consisted of an M40 improvised-explosive device, 12 anti-tank mines, six 60mm mortar rounds, 63 TNT sticks, 12 hand grenades, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, three RPG booster rockets, a 60mm illumination round, a PKC assault rifle and various bomb-making materials. In another incident, Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers from 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th BCT, 101st Airborne Division, detained three suspects who were attempting to take control of a propane station in Baghdad’s Karadah district at approximately 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. In a separate incident, MND-B Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, seized 120 23mm anti-aircraft rounds and an anti-aircraft gun while conducting combat operations south of Baghdad at approximately 1:40 p.m. Wednesday. As of Wednesday, Iraqi Security Forces and MND-B Soldiers have cleared approximately 96,000 buildings, 80 mosques and 65 muhallas, detained more than 168 terrorist suspects, seized more than 1,735 weapons, registered more than 750 weapons and found 35 weapons caches in support of Operation Together Forward. The combined forces have also removed more than 200,043 cubic meters of trash from the streets of Baghdad.
